Morris Sloman & Prof Yike Guo The emphasis is on the conceptual basis for distributed systems and computer science aspects of cloud computing rather than a detailed study of particular commercial systems and standards. Distributed systems are an increasingly important domain and more software systems move to shared cloud infrastructure. Within the CS PhD program, the course will serve as an elective suitable for any graduate student, but particularly for those with research interests in software engineering, systems, or programming languages. Distributed systems have become central to many aspects of how computers are used, from web applications to e-commerce to content distribution. This senior-level course will cover abstractions and implementation techniques for the construction of distributed systems, including client server computing, the web, cloud computing, peer-to-peer systems, and distributed storage systems.

This class teaches the abstractions, design and implementation techniques that allow you to build fast, scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems. Aims. This course considers two closely related topics, Concurrent Systems and Distributed Systems, over 16 lectures. The aim of the first half of the course is to introduce concurrency control concepts and their implications for system design and implementation. Accompanying lecture notes: https://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/teaching/2021/ConcDisSys/dist-sys-notes.pdf These videos form an 8-lecture series on distributed systems 2021-02-08 · 15-440/640 Distributed Systems Spring 2021 Overview.

Distributed systems course

This course has the objectives to present current related issues within the areas computer communications and distributed computer systems, with a special emphasis on existing technological and social achievements.

This course is unique. It touches various facade of distributed system. The course is quite heavy in terms of content and a lot has been added into this course to make this course complete. A lot of example with hands on sessions which author goes through.

Some topics that will be covered are causality and logical clocks, synchronization and coordination This 8-lecture course on distributed systems forms the second half of Concurrent and Distributed Sys-tems. While the rst half focussed on concurrency among multiple processes or threads running on the same computer, this second half takes things further by examining systems consisting of multiple communicating computers.
